What's wrong with the WhatsApp story?

The history of WhatsApp began in 2009, when Brian Acton and Jan Koum met professionally. They met while working at Yahoo!, sharing their vision about the importance of privacy and the simplicity of online communications. With this vision in mind, they began exploring an idea of ​​developing a messaging application that is easy to use, fast and secure.


In 2009, the friends asked to help a Russian friend, Alex Fishman, to create an application prototype. The name “WhatsApp” is hidden as a pun with the expression “What happens?” (¿What is happening?, in English). This choice of name reflects the informal and unpretentious nature of the messages we seek to facilitate.
